Abstract:
Rings (buffers) show the distance to the well and the time of travel (TOT) for contamination to reach the well head. The shallow alluvial aquifer from which Tecate's wells draw is characterized as fractured rock by the University of Utah. The buffer distances correspond to the minimum recommended distance for fractured rock aquifers by the California Drinking Water Source Assessment and Protection Program (Jan 1999). * Sinopsis: Anillos (buffers o zonas amortiguadoras) muestran la distancia al pozo y el tiempo de viaje (TOT) para que la contaminación alcance la boca de los pozos. El acuífero aluvial superficial del cual se alimentan los pozos de Tecate está caracterizado por la Universidad de UTA como de roca fracturada. La distancia de estos anillos corresponde a la mínima distancia recomendada para acuíferos de roca fracturada por el Programa de Evaluación y Protección de Fuentes de Agua Potable de California (enero 1999).
Purpose:
To show the time that it takes for a point source of contamination to travel through the fractured rock to the wellhead. Point sources within the 2 year ring are of special concern. * Propósito: Mostrar el tiempo que tarda la contaminación puntual en alcanzar la boca de pozo a través de roca fracturada. Fuentes puntuales que caen dentro del anillo en 2 años son de especial preocupación.

Buffer distances were calculated as 1.5R2, or a minimum of 900 ft for a 2 year time of travel (TOT). The second ring is 1,500 ft for a 5 year TOT.
