The Tijuana River Watershed Digital Sub-basin Boundary File was created as part of the Tijuana River Watershed GIS database project. The boundary was delineated from a Digital Elevation Model and then corrected using aerial stereoscopic photos. It is not based on legal descriptions.
Purpose:
The Tijuana River Watershed GIS Database project provides a fully integrated cross border geographic information system. One of the layers in the dataset was a digital sub-basin boundary. The boundaries were delineated from a Digital Elevation Model and then corrected using aerial stereoscopic photos. The boundaries are not based on legal descriptions.

These boundaries are not to be taken as legal definitions of the Tijuana River Watershed sub-basin boundaries.

Process_Description:
Topographic maps from both sides of the international border were scanned and converted into digital images. These images were then vectorized in ArcInfo and edited to correct spatial and attribute information. The vector coverages for each topo sheet were then merged together and edgematched for each side of the border. Finally, the two merged contour line coverages were merged at the international border. From this one merged contour coverage, a digital elevation model was constructed with a resolution of 30 meters. The DEM was then processed using ArcInfo to delineate the sub-basin boundaries. The derived boundaries were then inspected using aerial stereo pair photography to correct any spatial ambiguities resulting from the ArcInfo algorithm.
