Description:
Abstract:
The Tijuana River Watershed digital roads coverage was created as part of the Tijuana River Watershed GIS database project. The location and type of road is important to understanding the transportation infrastructure within the watershed.
Purpose:
The Tijuana River Watershed GIS Database project provides a fully integrated cross border geographic information system. The location and type of road is important to understanding the transportation infrastructure within the watershed.

Attribute_Accuracy_Report:
All attributes created during the data generation phase were verified by comparing the lines in both the dataset and the spatial coverage, but no formal tests were performed.
Logical_Consistency_Report:
These data are believed to be logically consistent, though no tests were performed. Line geometry is topologically clean.
Completeness_Report:
The roads coverage was created from exisiting DIME files and from INEGI maps. The DIME files were generalized to reflect major streets, roads, and highways in the U.S. portion of the watershed. The major roads, streets, and highways on the Mexican side were digitized from the INEGI maps and then edited and updated using 1:50;000 scale aerial photography dated 1994 and SPOT satellite imagery.

The data on the Mexican side were digitized from INEGI maps and then edited and updated using 1:50,000 scale aerial photography dated 1994 and SPOT satellite imagery from 1995. The data set as a whole was not statistically tested for horizontal accuracy.

Provided base maps for the roads on the Mexican portion of the watershed.
Process_Step:
Process_Description:
The roads layer were created from existing digital DIME files and from INEGI maps which were updated using a combination of aerial photography and satellite imagery. The data contained in the DIME files were generalized to reflect major streets, roads, and highways in the U.S. portion of the watershed. The major roads of the Mexican portion of the watershed were digitized from 1:50,000 scale INEGI maps and then edited and updated using 1:50,000 scale aerial photography dated 1994 and SPOT satellite imagery from 1995. The road networks only connect in three locations and therefore little edgematching was necessary. SDSU received the roads data for the Mexican portion of the watershed from COLEF in the form of ungenerated ascii files for the geographical data and ascii files for the associated attribute data. The data from COLEF utilized a projection and datum consistent with the U.S. data and therefore no re-projection or transformation was necessary to integrate the data into a single database. The roads were further edited by reclassifying the CLASS item, which orders the roads from interstates to local road, to correctly code each of the roads. Some items were deleted to create a coherent coverage on both sides of the border. Finally the roads coverage were dissolved to minimize the amount of features in the coverage.
